The authors investigated the index ofpulmonary bloodflow distribution between the upper and lower parts of the lungs in three groups ofpatients with acquired valvular heart disease before, and 3 and 12 months after surgical correction for mitral and aortic valve disease. Three and 12 months after mitral valvotomy, there was a statistically significant decrease in the perfusion of the upper parts of the lungs.
